Many people in 2015 will embark on a juicing diet of drinking fruit and vegetable juices…

This type of detox has been made very popular of late by the great film, ‘Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead’…

Although Juicing has been proven to be fantastic for many aspects of health mainly due to:

– Large influx of fast absorbing antioxidants
– Easy digestion

There are some things you need to consider…

To detox you need to hit both phase one and phase two detoxification pathways….

In order for this to happen key elements need to be present…

Both phase one and phase two detoxification pathways needs glutathione which requires amino acids…

For each of the six phase two pathways you need various amino acids in order for it to be effective. For this reason you cannot neglect protein with a Juicing cleanse…

For this reason if you are juicing I would 100% ensure you are getting your amino acids. To do this you could:

– Take BCAA’s
– Have one grass fed or organic meat / fish meal per day

Another massive factor with juicing is a distinct lack of fibre….

Juice lacks it…

This is why perhaps swapping a vegetable juice for a vegetable soup is considered a better approach by many. The soup approach maintains the natural fibre within the vegetables…

So the goal of most people on juicing plans is fat loss. If this is successful you will release toxins from the adipose tissue / fat tissue…

It is critical that you have effective mechanisms in place to remove this adipose tissue from the blood. If you don’t side effects will occur such as dizzy spells, fatigue, nausea and headaches…

Also if you don’t remove the adipose tissue it has no where to go and is likely to return into the fat cells…

It is critical before starting a detoxification program that you support all the detox organs especially the kidney and liver…

Optimal gut function is also key to experience the full benefits of a successful detox program…

So here are the SOS Athletic Excellence tips if you do want to juice yourself to good health in 2015:

1) Juice with predominantly vegetables rather than fruit, to limit sugar intake

2) Consider having a vegetable soup rather than a vegetable juice to get more fibre into the system

3) Supplement with BCAA’s to ensure adequate amino acids to support detoxification

4) Consider consuming good quality protein at least once a day to support detoxification.

5) Boost liver, gut and kidney health with effective supplementation of HCL, Probiotic, omega 3 and Glutamine before the juicing diet commences.

6) Help support the detoxification pathway with effective supplementation during the Juicing phase. Omega 3, Fibre and an antioxidant style supplement such as Juice Plus+ capsules or Poliquin Wellness Greens will assist in this.

I am a big believer in the benefits of Juicing and have personally experienced the benefits of short 3-5 day detoxes involving 3-4 juices and one solid meal a day. But you must take into account the information from above in order to make them a success.

Many people dive straight in there with these diets without fully understanding the process. So I really hope this helps.
